Avon doesn't wanna be Scenic CT

This article in the Hartford Courant explains that the town voted against having its stretch of Farmington river designated "wild and scenic," and details certain benefits that the label could bestow, including access to National Parks Service funding, but fails to mention what, if any, restrictions this would place on the site in terms of development and whatnot (which we assume is why the Repubs were against it?). The Farmington River Watershed Association has been working hard to convince various towns along to the river to be "wild and scenic." This sounds like an agenda we can get behind.

I was hiking today (when I should have been home-working) at scenic Penwood Park when I came upon this:

And, well, I've seen Buffy, and I know a stake when I see one. So obviously there are vampires.

This piece was spotted in scenic Bristol. The artist was put in quite a pickle when her pet rabbit knocked over the original vessel, but she wouldn't let her plant go homeless.

Scenic Colchester, etc.

Gee, we sure wish this was the view from our backyard. Oh well, it was nice to visit at least.

Haywood Lake, Colchester

On the way down Route 2, we stopped at Dee's One Smart Cookie (sorry, there's nothing really at their website) in Glastonbury, a bakery that specializes in gluten-free foods, including deserts, breads, pizzas and pizza dough. Unfortunately (for us), they also trade in dairy-free and nut-free, so that takes away a lot of tasty possibilities that we can still enjoy. Friday is pizza day (an exception to the dairy-free policy) so we tried a veggie pizza, and were pleased to find it tasted very much like a pizza. The gluten-free crust is on the crispy side, and it costs approximately an arm and a leg, so we probably won't be frequent customers, but it's nice to know it's there.
