One of my favorite concerts from the past year was Nick Lowe at swanky NW CT venue Infinity Hall... Lowe is an awesome songwriter and performer and proved to be a charming witty banterist live. Also memorable from this show was opening act Bill Kirchen, who casual listeners would know from that "Hot Rod Lincoln" song, and fans will recognize as the guitarist from Commander Cody in the late 60s and early 70s, and more recently as a collaborator with Lowe and other heavy hitters. I won't pretend to be any kind of Bill Kirchen expert, but his performance was really fun and engaging, and seeing him at a tiny club like Cafe Nine would probably be an even better kick. The guy can really shred and a trademark of his sets is his extended version of "Hot Rod Lincoln," which musically references fifty years or so of classic guitar riffs.
